African Chess Cup: Ednásia Júnior takes second place

Luanda – The Angolan Master Fide (MF) Ednásia Júnior beat this Wednesday the Algerian Chahrazed Djerroud and rose to the second place in the African Junior Men’s and Women’s Chess Championship, which is taking place in Algiers city, Algeria.

With this result obtained in the 5th round, the national team athlete has 3.5 points, one point less than the leader, the International Master (IM) from Algeria, Lina Nassr, with 4.5.

The other representative of the national team, MF Luzia Pires, beat the Candidate Master (CM) from Algeria, Imene Benelfekir, and placed in the eighth position, with 2.5 pts.

Thursday, for the 6th round, Ednásia Júnior faces the Master Candidate (CM) of Algeria, Ryma Nassr, fifth placed, with 2.5 points, while Master Fide (MF) Luzia Pires plays the other Algerian, Dalia Tani, who is in the last position with one point.

In men´s, CM Lutuima Amaro drew with Algeria´s athlete Abdeljalil Bibi, while MF Domingos Junior lost to another Algerian, Rayane Zane.

CM Lutuima Amaro is in the 10th position, with 2.5 points, while MF Domingos Junior is 13th, with 15 points.

On Thursday, for the 6th round, MF Domingos Júnior will play Otmane Babahammou, from Algeria, and CM Lutuima Amaro will face Abdellahi Khaled, from Mauritania.

In the men’s competition there are 16 chess players from nine countries, namely, Algeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Mauritania, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia and Angola.

In women´s it has the participation of 12 athletes from four countries, namely Algeria, Kenya, Tunisia and Angola.

The African Junior Chess Championship is taking place in Algiers until Saturday.
