AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK ASSURES ANGOLA OF SUPPORT FOR ITS ONGOING ECONOMIC REFORMS

SAL ISLAND, CAPE VERDE, The African Development Bank (AfDB) has assured Angola of its support for the country’s ongoing economic reforms, says the bank’s president, Akinwumi Adesina.

He said this after a meeting here Wednesday with Angola’s President JoAPound o Lourenco on the sidelines of the 12th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) here.

According to AfDB president, the economic reforms being undertaken by the Angolan government are important for the country’s stability. He said President Lourenco is laying the foundations for the diversification of the economy and the rapid development of the country.

Adesina told journalists that he had accepted an invitation to visit Angola this year, having pledged additional investments by the bank in Angola’s agricultural sector.

He suggested greater attention be paid to private businesses and the banking sector in order to ensure effective economic development of the country.

He put the bank’s investments in Angola at “billions of dollars”, in the fields of energy, infrastructure and agriculture.
