Agostinho Neto distinguished with title Doctor Honoris Causa

Luanda – Angola’s first president Antonio Agostinho Neto was posthumously awarded Tuesday the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Angolan academic community.

The award comes in recognition of his deeds as well as the courage and nationalist and patriotic sense demonstrated at a difficult time for the country.

The first President was engaged in the training of qualified personnel who would assist in the process of reconstruction and development of the country.

The papyrus award was delivered to Agostinho Neto’s widow, Maria Eugenia Neto.

The principal of Agostinho Neto University (UAN), Pedro MagalhAPound es, said that the ceremony is meant to highlight the role of the first rector of the institution in promotion of moral values, and mainly raising the education at higher level.

Addressing the ceremony, Maria EugA�nia Neto called on the scholars to cooperate in completion of University Campus in order to provide the university with infrastructure, such as workshops, laboratories, university hospitals and residences to accommodate teachers and students.

Agostinho Neto, was born on 17 September, 1922 in Icolo e Bengo, and died on 10 September, 1979 in former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (now Russia).

Antonio Agostinho Neto proclaimed the National Independence on 11 November, 1975.
