Angola and Germany discuss cultural co-operation

Luanda – Angola and Germany analysed on Monday, in Luanda, their bilateral co-operation in the cultural domain, with focus on artistic training, interchange and initiatives in the area of museums.

During an audience between the Angolan Culture minister, Carolina Cerqueira, and the German ambassador to Angola, Dirke Lolke, the two personalities analysed proposals to broaden the programmes relating to the training of cadres and the digitalisation of the Anthropology Museum, a programme being conducted by Germany’s Goethe Institute in collaboration with the Prussian Heritage Foundation.

They also discussed the importance of the Humboldt Museum that will be inaugurated in December this year, in Berlin, and which will have on display some Angolan artefacts.

The minister also highlighted the importance of the trip that Angolan technicians will make to Germany in November this year with the aim to identify areas for priority interchange and which ought to be included in the Action Plan on the bilateral co-operation in the arts and culture domain.

Carolina Cerqueira pointed out other areas of interest for the bilateral co-operation, such as cinema, the holding of the German cinema week in Angola and a diversified cultural activities exchange between Angola and Germany.

The minister manifested her satisfaction at the perspective of a new dynamics in the bilateral relations and emphasised that this relationship must be in line with the strengthening of economic relations announced by the Angolan President, JoAPound o Lourenco, when he made an official visit to Germany this year.

The German diplomat, on his turn, informed the Culture minister that the Goethe Institute will have as main mission to consolidate the relations with Angola in the domains of archaeology and anthropology, with a view to helping in the modernisation of the Angolan network of museums, as well as for the promotion of the German language and cultural interchange in various areas.

Ambassador Dirke Lolke seized the occasion to invite the Angolan Culture minister to visit Germany in the year 2019, so that she will also attend the Berlin Film Festival and other cultural manifestations in that European country.
