Angola approves creation of refugees’ shelter

Luanda – Angolan government is preparing for the creation of centre to accommodate refugees and asylum seekers with a view to ensuring more humanised treatment to migrants, the director of Foreigners and Migration Service (SME) has said.

Gil Famoso said so to the press on Wednesday at the end of 7th Ordinary Session of Cabinet Council.

To comply with this measure, the Wednesday session approved the regulations for the creation of the said centre.

Gil Famoso said that the creation of the site is based on the international obligations of the Angolan State, in this case the Geneva Convention, the New York Protocol, the Refugee Statute and the 1969 Convention on the Status of Refugees in Africa

To the SME director, the launch of the institution also serves to deter the exploitation and opportunism by those who enter the country with a purely economic objective.

The centres will be represented throughout the national territory, mainly in Luanda and Lunda Norte, provinces where a large number of applicants are concentrated.

As for Higher Education, Technology and Innovation, the sector has approved a Presidential Decree that establishes the Legal Regime for Evaluation and Credit of Institutions.
