Angola at gender ministers’ meeting in Uganda

Luanda – Angolan minister of Social Action, Family and Women Promotion Victoria da ConceicAPound o is set to attend a Gender Ministers’ Meeting on Friday (23rd) in Kampala, Uganda, according a note from the institution reached Angop Wednesday.

The meeting is part of monitoring programme of decisions from the leaders of the countries of the region and the recommendations from the 9th meeting of the Consultative Council of the platform of women held in February 2018.

The event will, among other issues, assess the degree of implementation of the national action plan, Resolution 1.325 (2000), examine and validate the respective regional action plan.

The participants will also discuss the significant participation of women in political and peace processes.

The meeting will also focus on economic strengthening and protection within the framework of the peace and security agenda.

The Angolan Government approved an Action Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, through Presidential Decree No. 143/17 of 26 June.

The Presidential Decree highlights the increase in women’s participation and gender mainstreaming in all phases of peace-building and decision-making processes at various levels.

The document also stresses the promotion and protection of respect for the human rights of women and girls in conflict and post-conflict areas.

The need to promote the participation of civil society in the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security is also among the Presidential Decree’s objectives.
