ANGOLA CONDEMNS VIOLENCE IN DR CONGO, REITERATES NEED FOR PEACEFUL RESOLUTION OF OF POLITICAL CRISIS

LUANDA, Angola has the latest acts of violence committed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and reiterated the need for the resolution of political disputes through peaceful means.

This was stated by Arcanjo Maria do Nascimento, Angola’s Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and Ambassador to Ethiopia, during a meeting held at the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Monday to assess the situation in the DRC.

According to a media statement received here Tuesday from the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia, he told the meeting that Angola — which shares a long land border with the DRC — was closely monitoring the transition process in progress in that country and was working closely with all stakeholders in order to find a peaceful solution to the political deadlock.

He also said the political situation in the DRC was of deep concern to the Angola, which currently chairs the International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), of which the DRC is a member.

The media statement said the recent wave of violence which is undermining the transition process continued to cause damage and haunt the hope of the Congolese people of living in peace and building a prosperous nation.
