Angola: Defence Minister Honours Cuban People

Cuito Cuanavale – The minister of National Defence, JoAPound o Lourenco, paid tribute on Wednesday at the Trumpo Triangle, southern Cuando Cubango province, to the Cuban people for their contribution to the Cuito Cuanavale Battle, which marked 28 years on Wednesday.

Speaking at act under the celebrations of the 28th anniversary of the Cuito Cuanavale Battle, the minister said that the ceremony aimed to pay homage and express gratitude to all Angolans to the Cuban people because they have always been available at the most difficult times side by side with the Angolan people”.

Thus, he highlighted the Cubans’participation in major battles in the country such as in N’to, Kifangondo, Ebo, Cangamba and Cahama and Cuito Cuanavale’s.

JoAPound o Lourenco recognized that the Cuban people have been in the struggle for independence and defence of the national sovereignty, which conferred them the natural right to be part of the quadripartite talks until the New York Agreements.

He recalled that the Cuito Cuanavale Battle was superiorly directed by the Commander-in-Chief, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, supported by most General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, whose leading figures attended the act.

According to the minister, with their example of bravery and courage, the honourees encouraged their colleagues to fight.
