ANGOLA FOCUSED ON ILLEGAL DIAMONDS PROSPECTING UNTIL 2020

LUANDA– The Angolan government has reaffirmed the decision to focus on the combat to illegal immigration, illegal prospecting and trafficking of diamonds, having deemed such move a priority until the year 2020.

This was said by the governor of the north-eastern Lunda Norte Province Ernesto Muangala, at a press conference that served to assess the local police operation dubbed Transparency, which began on Sept 25, aimed at supervising diamonds exploration zones and checking the legality of the work and workers in such areas.

The governor stressed that his government has been closing the offices of illegal diamonds prospectors and detaining illegal workers, adding that 200,000 foreign citizens is the number so far of detainees.

According to the governor, Operation Transparency has been ordered by the Angolan Head of State, in order to tackle irregular immigration and illegal prospecting of diamonds, which is more common in the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Cuando Cubango, Moxico, Malanje, Uige and Bie.
