Angola launches first research ship

Luanda – Angola launched on Thursday its first scientific research ship equipped with third generation technology made in Romania.

The 74 meters length ship, dubbed Baia Farta and which cost an overall USD 80 million, will operate on the Angolan sea coast having also the capacity to provide scientific assistance to neighbouring countries.

The ship is expected to improve conservation and utilization of sea and its resources, being equipped with four laboratories and various other facilities.

Maria Antonieta Baptista, minister of Fisheries and Sea, said the initiative will enable to supervise the assembly of large-scale production equipment in deep sea.
