ANGOLA: PRESERVATION OF CULTURE BY CARNIVAL GROUPS DEFENDED

LUANDA, Carnival groups are expected to have greater concern and attention in preserving the identity traits of the Angolan culture, particularly those linked to the Carnival, said Secretary of State for Culture, JoAPound o Constantino.

The official made the statement during a meeting with representatives of the carnival groups UniAPound o Twabixila, UniAPound o 17 de Setembro, UniAPound o Povo da Samba, UniAPound o Kazukuta do Sambizanga and UniAPound o Etu Mudietu, as part of a field trip to evaluate the preparations for the 2018 Carnival.

He emphasized the need for dances such as cabecinha, kazukuta and dizanda to be preserved and transmitted to the new generations as a way of perpetuating the Angolan cultural history.

He encouraged the groups to anticipate the preparations for the next edition of the Carnival, in order to present themselves appropriately in the New Marginal, stage of the Carnival, in 2018.

This edition of the Carnival of Luanda, in class A, had as winner the group UniAPound o Mundo da Ilha, the urban district of Ingombota.
