Angola: Ruling MPLA party presents new leader

Luanda – The new President of the Party MPLA, JoAPound o Lourenco, will be publicly presented to the country and the world, this Saturday in Luanda, at 02:10 pm.

Also President of the Republic of Angola, JoAPound o Lourenco is taking over Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who has been at the helm of the political organisation since September 1979, after the death of the first president Agostinho Neto.

JoAPound o Lourenco is being elected at the party’s 6th Congress taking place this Saturday in Luanda.

Addressing an opening ceremony, the current leader Jose Eduardo dos Santos focused on the conquest and preservation of peace in Angola.

He also stressed the achievement of national reconstruction, after decades of destruction that brought the country at standstill.

High on the agenda of the event will be the presentation of the president-elect JoAPound o Lourenco at 02:10 pm.

JoAPound o Lourenco is expected to close the event with focus on the guidelines of the programme at the party and Estate level.
