Angola thanks Algeria’s support for Mbanza Congo bid

Luanda – The minister of Culture Carolina Cerqueira Tuesday in Alger thanked the support of the Algerian authorities for Angola’s effort to get its Mbanza Congo ancestral city listed as a Unesco World Culture Heritage site.

Mbanza Congo City Historical Centre entered the Unesco World Cultural Heritage list on 8 July this year, during the 41st Session of the World Heritage Committee held in Krakow (Poland).

Angola’s thanks were conveyed to the Algerian Foreign minister, Abdelkader Messahel, during an audience he granted to Carolina Cerqueira, on a four-day visit to Algeria, at the invitation of her local counterpart, Azzedine Mihoubi.

During the audience, Carolina Cerqueira briefed the local official on the current political situation in Angola that is geared to general elections on 23 August this year.

On the occasion, the Algerian official reaffirmed his country’s friendship towards Angola with which it is linked by historical, cooperation and brotherhood ties that backdate to the latter’s national liberation struggle days.
