ANGOLA TO CONDUCT REGISTRATION OF VOTERS AUG 25-DEC 20 FOR 2017 POLLS

Angola will carry out a registration of voters ahead of the 2017 general election from Aug 25 to Dec 20, this year, with a second round of registration to be conducted from Jan 5 to March 31, 2017.

This was announced here Wednesday by the Minister of Territory Administration, Bornito de Sousa, who added that the electoral registration exercise was being done in line with the Angolan Constitution approved in 2010.

The minister told journalists at the end of the 1st Extraordinary Session of the Cabinet Council that the Constitution sets out the principle of unofficial electoral registration, which does not require the presence of citizens in the State administration.

He reported that, in principle, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) will work on the basis of data provided by the Executive, from the national identity documents database.

“Right now there are no conditions, in the short term, so that at least for the 2017 elections, the CNE is in possession of the relevant identity details,” he said.
