Angola to start re-register former combatants

Malanje – Angolan government has announced plans to start on 16 January the final phase of re-registration and proof of life of the former combatants and veterans of the motherland, in a move meant to improve social assistance to that group of society.

This was confirmed Wednesday in municipality of Quela, northern Malanje province, by the Secretary of State for Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Domingos André “Chicanha”.

Presiding over the central event to mark the 62nd anniversary of the Martyrs of the Colonial Repression, Chicanha said that success of the process depends on the involvement and patriotic spirit of all in the tasks in order to dignify those who fought for the achievements started with the repression of January 4, 1961.

The Secretary of State said that the Executive is carrying out a programme to revive the national economy to ensure greater social dignity for the population, with stress to the former combatants and veterans of the country.

In his address, the official stressed the government’s commitment to improve the living conditions of Angolans.
