ANGOLAN OFFICIAL HONORS CUBA FOR VICTORY IN CUITO CUANAVALE
LUANDA Angolan Defense Minister, Joao Lourenzo, paid tribute to the Cuban people for their permanent solidarity and their contribution in the victory of Cuito Cuanavale, on the 28th anniversary of the battle.
Speaking in Tumpo Triangle, in the province of Cuando Cubango, he expressed the gratitude of the whole Angolan population to the Cuban people, because “they have always been, shoulder to shoulder, with the Angolan people, in the most difficult times.”
He highlighted the involvement of Cubans in major battles carried out in the war in: N’to, Kifangondo, Ebo, Cangamba, Cahama, and Cuito Cuanavale.
Lourenzo acknowledged that Cuban people were part of Angolans’ struggle for independence and national sovereignty.
The decisive battle of Cuito Cuanavale (on March 23rd, 1988) marked the victory of the People’s Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (Fapla) against the Apartheid regime in South Africa.
