ANGOLAN PRESIDENT LEAVES FOR JOHANNESBUIRG THURSDAY TO ATTEND BRICS SUMMIT

LUANDA– Angolan President JoAPound o Lourenco leaves here Thursday for Johannesburg to participate in the 10th BRICS Summit at the invitation of his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa, the host for this year’s meeting of leaders of the five BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The South African organizers of this year’s summit have already confirmed the participation of various leaders from Africa who have been invited to join Ramaphosa, Brazil’s President Michel Temer, China’s President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in theior deliberations from Wednesday to Friday.

Angop learnt that while in Johannesburg, the Angolan president is also expected to meet separately with the Russian president and Indian Prime Minister.

Other African heads of State and government who have been invited to take part in the event include those of Namibia, Gabon, Uganda, Togo, Senegal, Rwanda as well as all the Heads of State and of Government of members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) sub-regional bloc.
