ANGOLAN PROPOSALS FOR AFRICAN FOOD SECURITY FUND ADOPTED BY FAO

LUANDA, The steering committee of the Africa Solidarity Trust Fund for Food Security has adopted the proposals from Angola aimed at revitalising the fund, according to the Angolan Embassy in Italy.

A statement received from the Embassy here Wednesday said the proposals were presented as an action plan for the fund when the steering committtee met at the office of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome on Monday.

The action plan proposals were presented at the ninth meeting of the steering committee by the Angolan permanent representative to the FAO, FlorAncio de Almeida, who was also chosen to head the fund during the meeting.

The Africa Solidarity Trust Fund was officially launched in 2013 as a follow-up to the FAO Conference for Africa held in 2012 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, with the aim of supporting African countries facing difficulties in ensuring food security.

De Almeida thanked the members of the committee for the trust they placed in him to preside over the fund, while also reiterating his continued engagement in the revitalisation of the fund.
