ANGOLA’S CAMBAMBE DAM TO BE COUNTRY’S LARGEST HYDRO-EELCTRIC PROJECT

LUANDA, — The Cambambe Hydro-electric Dam on the Kwanza River in north-central Angola is being developed into the country’s largest power sub-station, an expectation which should be achieved on completion of construction of the second generating plant at the project.

This was disclosed in Cambambe, in Cuanza Norte Province, by the project director, Alberto Carneiro, during the visit of the Minister of Energy and Water, JoAPound o Baptista Borges, to the infrastructure development site last Friday.

Carneiro told journalists that the sub-station would have three generating sets, the first with a capacity of 60 kilowatts (kw), the second with 221 kw and the third one with 400 kw.

“Technically, the dam is completed. Since the initial construction stage it was always set to produce up to 180 megawatts (MW) of electricity,” said Caneiro.
