Basketball/World Cup: Angola lose to Iran

BEIJING – Angola lost to Iran 62-71 on Friday in the World Cup qualifying match in China, thus making the former’s goal to direct qualification for 2020 Olympic Games in Japan further complicated.

The best-placed among the five African countries will directly qualify for the Japanese event, while those ranking second and third will participate in a tournament with teams from other continents.

Angola will meet Tunisia in their second match scheduled for Sunday.

With single win over Philippines (84-81), the national team conceded three defeats.

The country lost to Serbia (59-105), Italy (62-92) and Iran (62-71) on Friday.
