Belgian diplomat announces investment conference

Mbanza Kongo A conference on investment in Angola organised by the European Union (EU) will take place in Brussels in 2020. The announcement was made by the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Belgium to Angola, Jozef Smets this Friday in Mbanza Kongo, northern Zaire province.

The diplomat, who is on three-day visit to the region, told the press that there are considerable number of Belgian companies investing in Angola.

He said a group of businessmen from French-speaking European countries, including France, will visit Angola for a trade mission to explore the local market next year.

Jozef Smets named the sectors of port, diamond, energy and water, as the most interesting for his Belgian businessmen who want to invest in Angola.

He described Angola as an important partner, which is undergoing reforms to overcome economic problems.

We trust our partner. So we encouraged our companies to discover this country and preserve that confidence, he said, stressing that it is his mission, as a diplomat, to publicise the country to the Belgians.

The ambassador recalled that Angola is Belgium’s third trading partner in Africa in the bilateral field.

In addition to meet with members of the provincial government this Friday, he will attend an exhibition of the economic potential of the region.

On Saturday he will visit the local monuments and historical sites, before returning to Luanda.
