Belgian government reinforces investments with Angola

Luanda – The Kingdom of Belgium will strengthen cooperation with the Angolan authorities in the diamond, defense and transport sectors, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Didier Reynders.

The President of the Republic, JoAPound o Lourenco, granted an audience to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium.

In Angola since last Monday, the head of Belgian diplomacy was received in audience on Tuesday by the Angolan Head of State, JoAPound o Lourenco, with whom he addressed issues of bilateral interest.

Didier Reynders told journalists that his country will expand investments in Angolan territory and, in this sense, will happen in 2019, the re-launch of the Angola-Belgium Joint Commission.

As part of the reforms carried out by the Angolan Government, he said that Belgium intends to help the Angolan authorities in the marketing, control, management and production of diamonds.

Belgium, according to Didier Reynders, in the Antwerp area has developed a new technique for the control of pure and synthetic diamonds and therefore intends to monitor good management and transparency in the diamond trade.

Another issue that dominated the audience at the Presidential Palace was the current situation in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, at a time when Belgium is preparing to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council as from 2019.

In Burundi, an African country in the Great Lakes Region, the situation is worrying because of a worsening humanitarian crisis, while the DRC is holding elections in December.

The intention of the Belgian Government is to help these countries achieve peace.

The Republic of Angola and the Kingdom of Belgium have been cooperating since 1976. On 26 April 1983 they signed an Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation which established the legal framework for the partnership and established the Joint Committee.
