BELGIUM WANTS TO CONTINUE CO-OPERATING WITH ANGOLA IN DIAMOND BUSINESS

LUANDA, — Belgium wants to continue to co-operate with Angola in the minerals sector, specifically in diamonds, says the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, External Trade and Development Co-operation, Didier Reynders.

He told the media after meeting Angolan Geology and Mining Minister Francisco Monteiro Queiroz here Tuesday that the two countries would like to try in the public market which exist the possibility of seeing a way to increase the prices of Angolan diamonds in the Antwerp diamond market.

During the meeting, the Angolan Minister south the co-operation of Belgium to train Angolans working in the mining sector and also Belgian financiers to participate in mineral businesses in Angola.

Reynders said he would be sending a team of experts to Angola to see how they can contribute in these areas.

Monteiro Queiroz said Belgium had a mining tradition not only in Europe but also in the world and he would like to see investments from Belgium in this context and also to help in diversifying mining exploration to cover other minerals, besides diamonds.
