CAN’2024: Angola struggle for qualification

Angola national football team face Ghana at home on Monday in Luanda, in the fourth round of Group E of the CAN qualifier, in a bid to keep alive hope to qualify for the final phase of the African Nations Cup (CAN’2024), to be held in Côte d’Ivoire.

In the third round played Thursday Ghana beat Angola 1-0, a goal scored in overtime period.

With this defeat, Angola need to win to keep the objective of reaching the CAN competition.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Angola head-coach Pedro Gonçalves said he wants his players to be more efficient in front of the goal to help boost the country’s hope in this campaign.

The two teams are separated by three points (7/4), Angola must beat Ghana to continue dreaming of qualifying for the final phase.

The Central African Republic (CAR) are also in the fight, after beating Madagascar, 3-0, on their home ground.

At the end of the tournament, two teams from each group qualify for next year’s CAN of Côte d’Ivoire.

Ghana lead group E with seven points, three more than CAR and Angola, in the next places, while Madagascar are at the bottom with one point.
