Luanda – The Population and Housing Census contributes decisively to improve the understanding of the socio-economic reality and performance of management and planning of economic and social development, said on Wednesday here, the Minister of State and Head of the President?s Civil Office, Edeltrudes Costa.
Edeltrudes Costa was speaking at the ceremony of presentation of the final results of the General Population and Housing Census (RGPH – 2014), representing the President of the Republic, Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
He stressed that the census is one of the most important instruments of aid to governance, which must always be based on sound information and be guided by indicators and concrete goals.
“The use of 2014 Census information can thus improve the analytical tools for better evaluation of policies, plans and development programmes, on one side and on the other hand, to design a more secure policies, strategies and governance programmes for the coming years, which will lead to achieving the great national goals”, he said.
The official added that Angola is committed to achieving sustainable development objectives “2015-2030” and many of the indicators of sustainable development and the National Development Plan 2013-2017 are included in the 2014 census.
On the other hand, the minister stressed that housing was an important component of the census in 2014, as this is another priority area of ??action of the government, which still records a significant deficit, despite the considerable effort that has been undertaken, especially with regard to social housing.
Moreover, the official said that the 2014 census provides and avails to the society, especially academicians and researchers, quality information on various areas of interest.
The ceremony was attended by several ministers, namely the Ministers of Social Communication, Jose Luis de Matos, of Education, Pinda SimAPound o, of Environment, Fatima Jardim, of Interior, A�ngelo Veiga Tavares, of Planning and Territorial Development, Job Graca, and of Territory Administration, Bornito de Sousa.
