Chess: Angola win 13th African Title

Luanda Angolan chess player Luzia Pires was crowned Saturday African Junior Champion, in a competition held in Accra (Ghana), raising to 13th the number of titles for Angola in the ranking, Angop learnt from a source close to the Angolan Federation of Sport.

The Angolan female chess player of 1� de Agosto club qualified for the World Championship in 2020.

Still joining national team to the event the junior national champion in male, Marcio Filipe.

Eduardo Pascoal was the national coach.

With this victory, Angola maintain the hegemony of continental chess at the junior level, after the first conquest by MI Aderito Pedro, in 1993, in Ethiopia.

Wins by the country: Eugenio Campos (Seychelles ‘1994 and Angola’1995), Waldimiro Pina (Nigeria’1996 and Maputo’1997), Herikson Soares (South Africa’2011), Esperanca Caxita (Algeria’2013, Lunda Sul ‘2014 and Tunisia’2016), David Silva (Lunda Sul’2014, Seychelles’2015 and Togo’2017) and now Luzia Pires (Ghana’2019).
