Country has only 70 cardiologists

Luanda – Angola has only seventy national cardiologists in a population of more than twenty five million, a figure that authorities consider insufficient to meet demand.

In this total of specialists, Luanda is the province that has the largest number of cardiologists, and in recent years, more than one cardiologist has been admitted to medical schools in regional hospitals.

Angola’s numbers are very close to those of some other Southern African countries and unfortunately with the disadvantage the country has fewer professionals to care for the patients that it has.

The average of Southern Africa is 20 percent of the hypertensive adult population and less than seven percent of the individuals considered to be hypertensive are under control and this region of the continent this pathology has progressed the most with less success in their control.
