Covid-19: Angola to inoculate population with fourth covid-19 vaccine

Luanda – Angolan citizens will be inoculated with a fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine from November 21, the country’s Health minister, Sílvia Lutucuta, said Wednesday.

According to the minister, who was speaking during the Covid-19 update briefing, said the measure is due to the significant increase of covid-19 cases associated with community transmission.

People will get the vaccine at the level of municipal health units and mobile teams, since the big centers created for this end have been deactivated.

The minister spoke of the need to continue boosting the economy, however, without forgetting the basic biosecurity measures, as well as vaccination, since there are some cases that require hospitalization.

Silvia Lutucuta underlined that serious, critical and death cases, in their majority, are people who are not vaccinated or do not have complete or booster doses.

The minister recalled that in the last presidential decree several measures had been outlined, such as washing hands with soap and water, use of alcohol gel and the use of masks in public places or outside the family habitat, however these recommendations are not being complied with by most of the population.

“It is important to remember that the effect of the vaccine has its time and, for this reason, we recommend reinforcing the vaccine with the fourth dose”, the minister said.

The minister appealed to the population to continue to redouble biosecurity measures, and warned citizens with symptoms of sore throat, fever, joint pain, loss of smell, very similar to other diseases such as malaria, to resort to health facilities for diagnosis to confirm or exclude any case of Covid-19.

The State of Emergency due to Covid-19 was put to an end on May 16, 2022, thus dispensing with the use of masks in public places.
