COVID-19: Former FAA general staff chief calls for union

Luanda – The former Chief of General Army Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Francisco Pereira Furtado, Thursday called on all fringes of society to engage in the Government’s efforts to combat the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

Speaking to Angop, the retired army general, said that it is time for the people to commit themselves, stripped of their political shirts and party ideologies, to demonstrate their commitment to the Nation, “in this noble cause for the preservation of human life and love for neighbor.”.

Francisco Pereira Furtado said that nationals and foreigners residing in Angola are called to contribute in the humanitarian sphere, strictly observing and complying with the basic rules of conduct and behavior to avoid loss of lives, motivated by some ignorance, carelessness or alleged traditional habits and customs.

The retired army general said that the Nation is in a containing regime, given the gravity and lethality of Covid-19, so the media, main means of monitoring and transmitting news and useful information about the evolution of the pandemic and its control, must issue expert opinions on the topic.
