Menongue – The electoral commissioner of southern Cuando Cubango province, Bastos Samalambo, said Tuesday in Menongue that it is essential citizens to exercise their civic rights to consolidate democracy in Angola.

The official said so while lecturing on the theme “Strategy of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) for the electoral civic education campaign”, in a lecture to representatives of the political parties that will participate in the general elections of August 23.

The official also said that this exercise consisted in the right to vote and to be elected through fair, free and periodic elections, freedom of expression and opinion, and participation in the country’s matters or in the exercise of political office.

He also said that in democracy citizens participate in the issues of common interest aimed to vote, having defined it as the option to choose the representatives of the people, who have the responsibility to run the country’s interest.

Representatives of the ruling MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA and CASA CE attended the meeting.
