Electricity debt estimated at AKz 1 billion

Ondjiva – Electricity bills in southern Cunene province stands at AKz 1.5 billion, an amount accumulated from 2015 to 2022, said the National Electricity Firm (ENDE) in the region.

Of the value, Akz 1.049 billion are from domestic customers, Akz 366.4 million owed by public institutions and AKz 117.8 million by private institutions, said Monday the head of the technical sector of ENDE in Cunene, Zacarias Maria.

Zacarias Maria noted that there was an increased of 15.071 million compared to the previous debt (2021).

According to him, the company started negotiating with consumers for phased payment of debts.

He clarified that the negotiation depends on the amount of the debt, income and financial availability of the customers, where the first installment can settle from 50 to 10% and the subsequent installment, in a phased manner.

This process, he stressed, allowed the recovery of 14% of the debt accumulated by household connections, stressing that the concern is related to public and private institutions that are unable to honour their commitment.

Zacarias Maria clarified that non-payment of the debt prevents the expansion projects, as well as other charges made by the institution.

ENDE controls 20,057 consumers in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Namacunde, Ombadja and Cahama.
