ERCA recommends rigour in use of social media

Adelino de Almeida was speaking at provincial assembly of journalists in eastern Lunda Sul province on Wednesday, stating that the media professionals should strive for the contradictory principles.

He said that social media have contributed to the spread of fake news, warning that its use should be made with caution.

According to him, when used improperly, social media can ruin the individual reputation by exposing intimate details of the other person’s life, putting at risk the personality that would be difficult to repaired.

However, he called for an end to these negative practices in the exercise of the profession.

The provincial assembly of journalists in Lunda Sul collected contributions from the professionals to enrich the proposals of the class code of ethics and deontology.

The participants also elected journalists Jane Lingeno and Guilherme Martins, both from the provincial broadcaster of National Radio of Angola, delegates to the general assembly, due to take place on 26 October in Luanda.

In neighbouring Lunda Norte province, the members elected Sonia Ferry of Angola news agency (ANGOP), Andre Deque of national radio station (RNA), and Vitorino Matias News paper (EdicAes Novembro).

In Cuanza Sul were elected Helder Pedro (public television), Restino Inacio ( radio Cuanza Sul), and Fernando Caetano (voice of America).
