Football: Angola national team leave for Gaborone

Luanda – Angola?s senior males football team left on Wednesday for Gaborone, to face Botswana in the last round of group I of the qualifier tournament for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN2019) to be hosted by Egypt, in July this year.

The Angolan team departed with the confidence that they will achieve a good result, and taking into account that is the final round, the coach called up seven forwards, eight defenders, four midfielders and three goalkeepers, which shows how the squad are determined to win the match, ANGOP has learnt.

Angola ranks second with nine points in a group led by Mauritius who are already qualified for the African competition with 12 points.

Burkina Faso stand third with seven points, while the last placed Botswana are struggling with one point.

Angola participated in several Africa Cup of Nations including in1996 (South Africa), 1998 (Burkina Faso), 2006 (Egypt), 2008 (Ghana), 2010 (Angola), 2012 (Gabon and Guinea Equatorial), 2013 (South Africa), having missed the 2015 and 2017 competitions.
