Football: Angolan player draws attention in Portuguese league

Luanda – The Portuguese football has always been filled with good Angolan players since the period of Joaquim Diniz, Vata, Abel Campos and then Mantorras, at the time of Mateus Galiano, André Macanga, Wilson Eduardo and now Gelson Dala and Fábio Abreu.

Actually it is to this very last name (Fábio Abreu) that’s being drawn a lot of attention on the Portuguese first league, where he already scored 10 goals, 6 of which scored consecutively.

The player has been preponderant in the Moreirense maneuver and in winning points, as happened last Sunday whose goal, scored in the 26th minute, helped the team to the 2-0 victory against Marítimo, in a challenge of the 24th round.

The other goal was scored at 54 minutes by Filipe Soares, after an assist by Fábio Abreu. The team now occupy the 8th position of the championship, with 30 points.

On the previous day, Fábio scored Moreirense’s goal in the 1-1draw with Sport Lisboa e Benfica (67 minutes).

The 27 years old athlete also scored in other important games such as on the victory against Santa Clara by 2-1 (he scored one for the 22nd round).

During the season, he also scored in the defeat against FC Porto, by 2-4 (1 goal / 16th round), in the victory against CD Aves, by 3-2 (2 goals/12th round), and initialed in the victory against Gil Vicente, 3-0 (1 goal/2nd round).

Fábio Abreu, who preferably uses his right foot, started in English football, having represented the formations of Becup Borough FC (2010) and Mossley AFC (2011), moving in 2012 to the Marítimo de Portugal, in the sub division -19.

The striker was hired by Moreirense in 2019 until 2022, with a market value estimated at Seven hundred thousand euros.

He debuted for the national team on 6 September 2019, in the 1-0 away win over Gambia, in the qualifications for the 2022 World Cup. He started and evolved during the 90 minutes.

In the next round, the team led by Ricardo Soares will face Boavista.

The meeting for the 25th round is scheduled for the 15th, and it is expected that Fábio Abreu will continue to honour the name of Angola.
