Football: Sports Minister surprised by thrashing over Mauritania

Luanda – Angolan Youth and Sports Minister Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto said that the victory Friday over Mauritania was expected, as part of the CAN2019 qualifying, but the result was a surprise one.

“Regardless of the strength of the opponents, they were expected to win, but the athletes surprised by increasing the score to 4-1 and dethrone the then leaders,” she told reporters at the end of the match held at 11 de Novembro Stadium.

Paula Sacramento Neto said that Angola “is adding and go forward” and hoping that the team will be able to maintain the same pace in Nouakchott (capital of Mauritania), where Tuesday the Palancas Negras will play the fourth match of group I with the same opponents.

For the minister of mineral resources and oil, Diamantino de Azevedo, who was “happy with the triumph”, the group managed to “hold on,” even after having conceded the goal in the initial stage, which earned them the claim during the encounter.

The national team added their second win and six points in three matches and tentatively took first place in the standings, with the same points from Mauritania, awaiting the outcome of Saturday’s game between Burkina Faso (three points) and Botswana (zero).
