FOREIGN MINISTER, PRESIDENT TOUADÉRA DISCUSS CAR SITUATION

Luanda – The latest developments on the peace process in the Central African Republic (CAR) took the Angolan Foreign Minister Téte António to Bangui city, where he was received by the President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, Angop has learnt.

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), Téte António traveled to the CAR capital as Special Envoy of the Angolan President and chairman of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR ), João Lourenço.

The ICGLR Summits, held in Luanda, on 29 January and 20 April this year, instructed the acting chairpersons of the ICGLR and ECCAS, respectively, João Lourenço and Denis Sassou Nguesso, to take steps at the Security Council of the United Nations, with a view to lifting the arms embargo on the CAR.

The note adds that it was in this capacity that the Angolan statesman participated, on June 23 of the current year, in the UN Security Council Meeting on CAR held in New York.

After Bangui, the Angolan top diplomat will visit Kigali (Republic of Rwanda) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), with the same purpose.
