Governor of Luanda highlights heroes of March 23

Luanda – Luanda provincial governor, Sergio Luther Rescova, said on Thursday that the March 23 ephemeris should be celebrated under the symbol of peace, integrity of national sovereignty and reinforcement of patriotism.

He explained that honoring the heroes of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale should be permanent because, as young people of the time, many of these heroes gave their lives to have a sovereign country today and conducted freely by the Angolans.

The governor spoke during a speech marking the celebration of the 23rd of March, Southern Africa Liberation Day, which appears to mark the victory of the Angolan troops in the battle of Cuito Cuanavale, between November 15, 1987 and March 23, 1988 , in the province of Cuando Cubango.

”Thirty-two years later, we are all proud of what was the unselfish commitment of Angolans from the various provinces, who joined the Cuando Cubango region for a heroic act of international dimension,” he said.

He said it was necessary at moments like this to also highlight the international solidarity that Angola had to face heroically this battle, like Cuba, Russia and others, who contributed to the success of the victory that allowed the liberation of Namibia and South Africa.
