The 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) will be convened on June 14 this year, in Luanda.

This was confirmed by Angola’s Foreign Affairs minister, Georges Chikoti, while speaking to the press at the end of a meeting with the Special envoy of UN Secretary General for the Great Lakes Region, Said Djinnit.

Georges Chikoti said during the meeting it was suggested to present at the next summit a proposal on holding a meeting at the level of Heads of State, SADC, EU and United Nations focused on the peace process in DRC.

In turn, Said Djinnit praised and thanked Angola for its constructive role and leadership of its President Jose Eduardo dos Santos in Great Lakes region.

“We take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the constructive role of Angola and many initiatives for promotion of peace and security in the region,” he said.

The ICGLR groups Angola, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Republic of Congo, Central African Republic (CAR), Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
