JoAPound o Lourenco reaffirms fight against corruption

Lisbon – The President of the Republic, JoAPound o Lourenco, reaffirmed this Thursday in Lisbon (Portugal), the fight against corruption, despite recognizing the inherent risks of this mission.

In a joint press conference with the Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, JoAPound o Lourenco was asked about the fight against corruption and if his Government would not be “playing with fire.”

“Let’s continue to play with the fire, keeping it always under control. We will not burn, “assured the Angolan President.

JoAPound o Lourenco said that when he decided to fight against corruption in Angola, he was aware that it took a lot of courage and that he was “stirring with the Marimbondo’s nest”, a bee’s “family” wasp.

“We will not back down. It is necessary to destroy the Marimbondo’s nest. Angola has 28 million inhabitants, but there are not 28 million corrupt, “he said.

During the press conference, the two heads of state highlighted the proximity between the Angolan and Portuguese peoples.

“We are giving the opportunity, during your visit to Angola next year, when the diplomats will agree, we can also sign cooperation instruments that will consolidate our bonds of friendship and economic cooperation,” he added. This afternoon, JoAPound o Lourenco’s agenda reserved a speech at the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, one of the most awaited activities of his State visit to Portugal.
