Journalist highlights Agostinho Neto’s poetry

Luanda – The Angolan journalist and writer Jose Luis Mendonca last Wednesday, in Luanda, highlighted the poetry of the country’s first president, Antonio Agostinho Neto, as a factor of motivation, encouragement and sensitisation for the struggle of oppressed people.

Jose Luis Mendonca said so when delivering a lecture in the ambit of the activities relating to the commemoration of the National Hero’s Day, September 17, which marks the birth anniversary of Dr Antonio Agostinho Neto, who is also known as the founder of the Angolan Nation.

The lecturer stressed that the poetry of Agostinho Neto marked a turning-point in the country’s cultural and political landscape, adding that the first president of Angola was a gifted and multicultural man.

He said family was one of the main sources of inspiration in the poetry of Agostinho Neto.

He then reminded that Antonio Agostinho Neto was always concerned about giving solutions to the problems faced by Angolans, such as the situation of hunger, basic health care, education, among others.

The poetry of Agostinho Neto, emphasised the writer, is not just about sadness or pain, but also joy, happiness and hope for a better future.

On the fringes of the lecture which was organised by the Dr Antonio Agostinho Neto Foundation it was unveiled a photographic exhibition with the theme Agostinho Neto and his family.
