Minister reaffirms commitment to eradicate poverty

Luanda The minister of Economy and Planning, Sergio Santos, reaffirmed, this Thursday, in Luanda, the commitment of the Angolan Government in the creation of projects and programs aimed at reducing the incidence of extreme poverty in the country.

According to the official, who was speaking at the opening of the conference on “The fight against poverty”, stressed the measures such as the redistribution of wealth, through active employment policies, promotion of entrepreneurship, reform of the social security system, social integration projects and financial education, support for family farming in rural areas, the Employability Promotion and Action Plan (PAPE),

He also highlighted the initiatives to maintain minimum income as some of the premises that have been implemented by the Government and served to reduce the incidence of extreme poverty.

The minister stressed that there is still a long way to go in order to guarantee the success and sustainability of the fight against poverty.

For Sergio Santos, it is not possible to find uniform and adequate solutions to the effective fight against poverty, as they have different causes, and in the case of Angola the consequences of the destruction of infrastructures and the socio-economic fabric during the long period of the armed conflict accentuated the poverty levels.

In his turn, the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Mamisoa Rangers, said she believed that the set of social public policies will result in the creation of conditions for inclusive and economically sustainable growth.
