National Assembly Initiates Disciplinary Action Against Opposition MP Alberto Catenda.

LUANDA: The National Assembly has ordered the commencement of a disciplinary process against Alberto José Catenda, a Member of Parliament from the largest opposition party, UNITA. The disciplinary action is in response to allegations of misuse of the official vehicle provided to him for his parliamentary duties.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the decision to initiate this process was based on a need to verify the allegations against MP Catenda, which suggest a potential breach of his parliamentary responsibilities. The Assembly’s directive is grounded in the provisions outlined in Article 18(2) of the Code of Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum, Article 45(1)(e) of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, and Article 45(2) of Organic Law No. 1/2024, dated 5 September. These regulations pertain to the organization and functioning of the National Assembly’s services.

The process will be undertaken by the Specialized Working Committees, which have been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation to
establish the truth behind the accusations. The outcome of this inquiry will determine if MP Catenda’s actions constitute a violation of his parliamentary duties.
