National Police reinforce security measures in border areas

Malanje -Angola has reinforced measures to control the movement of people and goods in border areas, with the aim to prevent entry of citizens and products suspected of being contaminated with COVID-19, the General Commander of the National Police, Paulo de Almeida, said on Tuesday.

The police chief, who was speaking on the sidelines of the presentation of the new delegate of the Home Ministry in northern Malanje Province, said provincial commands and Border Police have been instructed to comply scrupulously with security measures, given the current context of spread of the pandemic.

The police chief also reassured citizens that there is no cause for alarm, taking into consideration that the situation is under control along the border regions.

Asked about the possibility of closing the borders with neighbouring countries that have already confirmed positive cases of the pandemic (Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo), Paulo de Almeida explained that such measure would only be taken under instruction by the concerned authorities.
