Parliaments should encourage policies for young people and women

Luanda – Angolan MP Idalina Valente considered imperative that parliaments influence their governments to promote public policies towards vocational guidance of young people and women to science and technology.

Idalina Valente made the statement during the 139th session of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which ran from 14 to 18 this month, representing the national Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

Regarding Angola, Idalina Valente said that the country safeguarded these policies in the National Development Plan 2018-2022, which enshrines concrete actions in science and technology, as “essential means for the achievement of social development, peace and stability of the country”.

The topic of the general debate of the 139th IPU Assembly was Parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in the age of innovation and technological change, aiming at reinforcing the role of contributing to the development of society through policy on the scientific sector.
