Portugal praises economic relation with Angola

Luanda – Portuguese Prime minister Antonio Costa Monday in Luanda described the level of economic relations between Angola and his country as very intense.

The Portuguese Premier was speaking to the press on his arrival in the Angolan capital, Luanda, for a 48-hour official visit to Angola.

Antonio Costa said that the trip has, firstly, the very important symbolic character of raising, at a strategic level, the cooperation between the two countries, with the new plan to be signed.

Secondly, he said, the governments of the two countries have to focus on the future and on what they together want and must do.

Speaking of Angola’s great ambition to diversify its economy by replacing the imports with many of its local production, the Premier considered an opportunity for Portuguese companies to collaborate.

“We are creating a set of instruments so that the Angolan and Portuguese economic agents have a strengthened confidence to invest here and there,” he stressed.

During the visit, the two countries will sign agreements on double taxation, renewal and reorganisation of the credit line, as well as in the fields of Agriculture, Media, and several other positive contributions to strengthen cooperation.

Asked about his coming to Angola whether was a turning point in Angola / Portugal relations, the official said that “it was only the continuation of a long history.

It is important to be aware that the future binds us more than the past, he said.

Monday visiting agenda of the head of the Portuguese Government includes meeting with the Portuguese community and entrepreneurs living in or investing in Angola.

The programme includes visit to Military History Museum and the construction works of Camama’s new maternal and child hospital.

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister will be received in audience by President JoAPound o Lourenco.

Still on Tuesday, the minister will visit the National Assembly, where he will be received by the Speaker Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

Antonio Costa was welcomed by Foreign Minister Manuel Augusto, the governor of Luanda Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, high ranking officials of the Portuguese Embassy in Angola, among other individuals.
