President arrives in New York for UN General Assembly

New York – Angolan head of State JoAPound o Lourenco arrived in New York on Saturday afternoon to take part in 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

The president is expected to address the Session next Wednesday (26), at a time he marks his first year in the office.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed hope over the trip of JoAPound o Lourenco, who is being accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenco.

“There is a great expectation, first in our country by our population, on what the President JoAPound o Lourenco will convey to his peers,” the Foreign Affairs minister Manuel Augusto told reporters.

The Angolan top diplomat also spoke of a great international expectation on the political transition in Angola which, according to him, has been monitored with great interest both in the continent and the world.

JoAPound o Lourenco is addressing the main event for the first time as the Angolan head of State, with focus on the implementation of global measures in the areas of peace, justice, society, economy and health.

Highlight also goes to the issues such as arms control, promotion of human rights, socio-economic development, coordination of humanitarian assistance in the world and prevention of chronic diseases, tuberculosis, malaria and AIDS.

In New York, the Angolan President will also address the US-Angola business economic forum, scheduled for Monday (24).

JoAPound o Lourenco is also set to meet with several Heads of States, with stress to Croatia, Kenya and the Cuban Council of State.
