Brazzaville – Angolan Head of State João Lourenço is since early this Friday in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, to witness the swearing-in of President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
Accompanying the Angolan President in this Congo trip is the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Foreign minister, Téte António, and officers from his office.
João Lourenço, who left Luanda in mid-morning on Friday, is expected back in the country later today.
President João Lourenço was seen off at departure by the National Assembly speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, by government officials and his office staff.
Denis Sassou Nguesso (77) was re-elected on 21 March this year, with 88,57 percent of the votes, for a new five-year term, after defeating six opponents led by Guy-Brice Parfait Kolélas, who died of Covid-19 just before the voting.
Angola and Congo enjoy privileged relations of cooperation in the political, diplomatic, economic and cultural spheres.
They are both members of the Economic Community of the Central Africa States (ECOWAS) and of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).
