President Lourenço returns from Brazil

Luanda – Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, returned Tuesday from Brasilia, Brazil, where he attended on Sunday the swearing-in ceremony of the President of that South American country, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

At Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro Airport, the Head of State was welcomed by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, senior government officials and presidential aides.

Besides attending the swearing-in ceremony, João Lourenço met with the presidents of East Timor, José Ramos-Horta, and Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoko Embaló.

The Angolan President also met with the first deputy prime minister of Ukraine, Yuliia Svyrydenko, and Algeria’s Parliament Speaker , Ibrahim Boughali, among other personalities.

Angola and Brazil cooperate in agriculture, energy, immigration, health, education, technical cooperation and diplomatic consultations.

The two states also cooperate in science, technology, culture, fishing, oil, environment, communication, trade and transport.

Brazil was the first country to recognize the independence of Angola, proclaimed on November 11, 1975.
