President stresses government focus on civil aviation

Luanda – Angolan government will pay special attention to civil aviation as well as air and airport management services to ensure qualified professionals in the sector.

The Executive’s intention was announced Monday by the President of Republic JoAPound o Lourenco.

JoAPound o Lourenco said so while delivering his speech during the State of the Nation address at Parliament building, to mark the opening ceremony of legislative year.

The head of State said that the objective is to ensure that the management of the country’s airports, in particular the new Luanda airport, is carried out by skilled professionals, based on efficient criteria to benefit both the State and the users.

JoAPound o Lourenco referred to the construction works of the new Caio deepwater ports in Cabinda and Barra do Dande (Bengo).

According to him, the works in those areas will continue at the same efforts will be intensified to equip modern navigation, maritime and air traffic control equipment in Angola.

At the Angola-US Business Forum held in New York last September, the President JoAPound o Lourenco announced the opening of the public tender for the construction of Barra do Dande Port and its logistics base.

The president said on the occasion he hoped that the American businessmen could be interested in the management and operation of the airport, its commercial areas, spaces for the construction of industries and logistics and hotel services.

The new Luanda International Airport occupies a total area of 75.5 square kilometers and has integrated traffic control areas.

The infrastructure has support facilities, flight zone as terminals and two runways with dual capable for Boeing 747 and Airbus 380 aircraft.

After completed, the new airport will accommodate up to 15 million passengers and processing 600,000 tons of cargo per year.
