Rice stored at Manquete project to have final destination

Ondjiva – A delegation made up by representatives of the Arable Lands Management Company (Gesterra.), the Angolan Sovereign Fund (FSDEA) and Ministry of Agriculture is to arrive on Saturday in southern Cunene to define the final destination for the 250 tons of rice stored in silos for three years at the local Manquete project.

According to the Project manager, the 250 tons of rice will receive due treatment so as to be appropriately used to avoid losses.

The quantity of rice stored in silos since the first harvest of the project in 2015, is deposited due to the lack of decision regarding the destination to give to it, the same is happening with production area, which was no longer prepared for production, said the manager.

Manquete is a project, which was approved in 2010 by the Angolan government through the Chinese Development Bank credit line, whose goal is to produce large range cereals in Angola and reduce the rice import of the country.

Budget at USD 85, 5 million, the project occupies a 2,000 hectares land.
